International Researchers Support Team of Kyoto University Research Administration Office (KURA) held an online seminar and interactive session about KAKENHI, JSPS’s Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, titled “KAKENHI interactive session with a past reviewer and awardees” in English on August 25, 2022. 33 people (including 15 researchers) participated in the event.
This interactive session was organized to help KAKENHI applicants familiarize with the KAKENHI system while interacting with an experienced reviewer and awardees of KAKENHI.
In the beginning, SASAKI Yu gave a presentation on KURA’s Application Support for KAKENHI and the application schedule for the FY2023. Also, Dr. Herbschleb, David Ernst, Program-Specific Assistant Professor, Institute for Chemical Research (ICR), Dr. Samaddar, Subhajyoti, Associate Professor, Disaster Prevention Research Institute (DPRI), and Dr. Alvarez, Ortega Miguel, Program-Specific Associate Professor, Graduate School of Law, who had been adopted for KAKENHI successfully in the past, shared their experiences as well as parts of their proposals and points to note when writing KAKENHI proposals.
Prof. Ishihara Keiichi, Professor, Graduate School of Energy Sciences, who has the experience as a reviewer, explained the points he checks as a reviewer. He also shared his way of reviewing in the past following the specific review procedures for KAKENHI (B/C) and the most important evaluation items in the review process. Participants had an opportunity to deepen their understandings through the speakers’ experiences.
This event was moderated by SASAKI Yu and OYAMADA Aya, SAITO Chisato , MURATA Takuya and UEMURA Ayana supported the planning and operation of the event. KURA will continue to make efforts to create an environment for international researchers to maximize their research capabilities through supporting research.
